SwiftCopy: Image to Text OCR · Chrome extension

Image-to-text extension privacy

This policy covers SwiftCopy: Image to Text OCR, the Chrome extension developed by Darian Macharowski. It converts text in images and screenshots into text you can edit and copy. Recognition takes place locally in your browser. You can choose English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese as the recognition language. The extension does not automatically detect languages or translate text.

Information the extension handles

When you choose an image file, the extension reads that file to display the image and recognize its text. When you choose Capture Visible Tab, it captures the entire visible area of the selected tab and shows that screenshot in its editor. You can select a smaller area there; only that selected area is passed to recognition. Without a selection, recognition uses the whole image.

The extension uses the active tab's identifier and address locally to check whether capture is allowed and whether the tab changes during capture. It does not read a stored browsing-history list, inject scripts into pages or monitor your browsing continuously. Your browser language and platform are used locally to choose interface text, set the initial recognition language and display an optional SwiftCopy for Mac link. The recognition language initially matches a supported interface language, with English as the fallback. You can change it in the editor.

Images and recognized text can contain personal or sensitive information. The extension processes what you deliberately choose for the image-to-text task. It does not send those images, extracted text, edits or source-page address to the developer or an OCR service.

Local processing and storage

The OCR engine and all six language models are packaged with the extension. Recognition works offline after installation, without downloading a model when you choose a language. The extension has no account requirement, analytics, advertising trackers, cloud OCR service or cloud synchronization.

Images, screenshots and text are held in memory while the editor is open. Choosing a replacement image or selecting Clear removes the preceding image and text from the editor. Navigating away, reloading or closing the editor clears its session. Temporary screenshot handoff data is discarded after the editor consumes it, after two minutes, or sooner if Chrome stops the background worker.

The extension does not save images, text or OCR history to persistent storage. Chrome manages its own browser session, form restoration, caches, installation and update systems. The extension does not control all browser-managed data; its local-memory behavior is not a promise that Chrome or your operating system can never retain browser-owned data.

Copying text

Copy Text writes the displayed result to your system clipboard only when you click it. The extension does not read the clipboard or automatically paste into another application. Your operating system, clipboard-history software or other applications may retain or use text after it is copied. Clearing or closing this editor does not clear those applications or your system clipboard.

The website and separate Mac app

On a Mac, the editor offers an optional link to swiftcopy.app, the website for the separate SwiftCopy clipboard-history application. The extension works independently and does not require that app. The website opens only when you click the link. Images, extracted text, edits and the source-page address are not attached to that navigation. The link includes fixed campaign labels that identify the extension, not you or your content.

This website uses Vercel Analytics, separately from the extension. Ordinary website requests and website data handling are described in the SwiftCopy website and Mac-app privacy policy. That policy also describes the native app's clipboard-history storage. Chrome Web Store and browser-level services are governed by their providers' policies.

Data use and control

The extension uses selected content only to provide the image-to-text functionality you requested. It does not sell content or use it for advertising, profiling, creditworthiness decisions or an unrelated purpose. The developer does not receive your OCR content through the extension.

You can change the selected image, edit the recognized text, cancel recognition, select Clear or close the editor. Review recognized text before using it, particularly numbers and code, because recognition can contain mistakes.

Contact and changes

For privacy questions, contact Darian Macharowski at swiftcopy@swellsolutions.app. Send only information you intend to share; the extension does not automatically attach images or recognized text to a support message. For help using the extension, see extension support.

Any future change to the extension's data handling will be reflected in this policy before that changed behavior is released.
