SwiftCopy: Image to Text OCR · Chrome extension

Image-to-text extension support

SwiftCopy: Image to Text OCR turns text in an image or visible-tab screenshot into text you can review, edit and copy. Choose English, French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese for recognition. It runs locally in Chrome using the OCR files included with the extension. No account or separate SwiftCopy Mac app is required.

Extract text from an image

  1. Open the extension. Choose an image file, or choose Capture Visible Tab to open a screenshot of the current tab in the editor.
  2. Drag over the text you want to recognize, or use the whole image. Rotate 90° if the text needs to be upright.
  3. Choose the language in your image from Text language, then select Extract Text. You can cancel recognition and try again.
  4. Review and edit the result, especially numbers and code. Select Copy Text when you are ready, then paste it yourself where you need it.

Capture Visible Tab captures the whole visible part of the page before you choose a smaller area in the editor. Keep sensitive information out of the visible area if you do not want it in that screenshot. The extension does not upload the image or recognized text.

Languages and image formats

Recognition supports English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese. All six models are included and work offline. Choose one language for each extraction; there is no automatic language detection or translation. The initial choice matches a supported interface language, with English as the fallback. If you change Text language, extract the text again.

The interface and privacy page are available in English, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Brazilian Portuguese. You can choose a different recognition language without changing the interface.

Choose a still PNG, JPEG, WebP or supported uncompressed BMP file. Animated PNG/WebP and compressed BMP files are not supported. Imported files must be no more than 20 MB (20,000,000 bytes), 25 megapixels and 16,000 pixels on either side.

If capture or recognition does not work

Privacy and clearing your work

Images and text are temporary editor state, not an OCR history. Selecting Clear, choosing another image, reloading or closing the editor removes that editor session. Text you already copied may remain in your system clipboard or other apps. Read the extension privacy policy for local processing, browser-managed data and clipboard details.
